CLUB
TRAINING EVENINGS
THE
MORAY FOREST RUNS
For
some years now, the club has been helping to stage the very popular Moray
Forest Runs Series. These
Wednesday-evening events are trail runs of between 4 and 5 miles using a
variety of surfaces from forest tracks, small paths, sandy trails and even the
beach. The last 2 runs include some quite interesting hills so they provide
excellent fitness training for orienteering. Also assisting are various village
hall committees who raise much-needed funds in the process.
This
year we will be using these runs for official club training evenings so please
try to come along – and wear your club t-shirts! This is a chance to enjoy
running in our favourite environment with our road-running friends – and it
helps show the world that orienteers really do run!.
All
events have the same format with registration starting at 6.15 pm. There’s a
free-to-enter run of about a mile aimed at under-12s starting at 6.45 (no
registration required for these - just line up and go). The main race starts at
7.15 pm, and at some of the events there’s a separate event of about 1.5 miles
(again free of charge) for older juniors. Juniors are, of course, welcome to
run in the main events! The Culbin and Roseisle events regularly attract over
250 runners!
Prizes,
refreshments, and a fantastic family-friendly atmosphere all for £3
Wed 26 May CULBIN

to the viewing tower. A lovely course in the UK’s best orienteering forest.
Wed 9 June ROSEISLE
(Picnic Area). 4 miles starting off on the beach, turning in to the
forest at the Millie Burn. Some paths are quite sandy and there are a couple of
dunes to run up.
Wed 23 June QUARRELWOOD

gradually for about a mile. Another sharp climb and long downhill stretch
before a long climb to the hill top after which it’s mainly downhill to the
finish.
Wed 30 June MONAUGHTY
(Torrieston Walks Car Park – near Pluscarden). 4 miles on paths and
tracks following an interesting and varied route with one very significant
climb (but a downhill finish)!
