Who left the gate open? It is a basic rule of country life that gates should be left as found, so whoever was the first person to leave the field gate open is to blame.
Happily the sheep didn't notice. Remember, even if there is someone coming behind you they may not have seen that you had to open the gate, and therefore assumed that it was supposed to be open. Naughty!
