Well done to all of you for taking part today! There were some incredibly fast times, with new course records being set for the Girls A course and the Boys B course. The three lads who were medallists on the Boys
A course also did brilliant times which have only been beaten in the past by Johnstone Macpherson-Stewart and Andrew Barr who have since gone on to win British Championship silver medals and have recently been training with the Scottish Junior Squad.
It was lovely to see those who attended the taster session on Wednesday doing so well. Jake Carpenter, Alistair Rhind, Elise Cox, Natasha Burge and Molly Carmichael were all names that we recognised from Wednesday. There were also a lot of you doing it for the first time, and it’s always more difficult when you’re new to something difficult like orienteering. We hope you enjoyed the challenge.
There were a few runners who thought they’d been disqualified when one of the controls (51 for most of you – no 12 on the B course) didn’t register. This was probably because more than one person tried to register it at once, and we’ve reinstated you in the results. The only ones who were disqualified were those who definitely missed out one or went to a wrong control.
You might have read the leaflet that you received with your certificate telling you about the Scottish Sprint Orienteering Championships that we’re holding at Lossie High School on Saturday 26th September at 2pm. We’d be delighted to see some of you there! The courses are no more difficult than the ones you did today, so if you managed to get round without help from any of the marshals you will probably enjoy taking part in the championships. Some of you, we think, might do rather well! The only difference from today is that there aren’t any marshals out on the course. If you’d like to take part but would rather run with a partner, that’s OK. You can come to the event and watch the experts do it, and then enter the public ‘fun’ race from 3pm onwards with a friend or a parent.
The junior classes are as follows:
M/W10 for boys/girls who are 10 and under on 31 December 2009
M/W12 for 12s and unders
M/W14 for 14s and unders etc
There are also adults classes too so drag mum or dad along too.
Entries for the championships are open until 21 September, and you can enter the public ‘fun’ race on the day. Just click the link on the fixtures list to find out more.
We hope to see your school team at Gordonstoun next spring for the Moray Primary Schools Festival, and if you want to get some practice in the meantime, just come along to any of our events. You don’t have to be in a club to take part and everyone’s welcome.
