Thanks to all you parents who brought your children along today.  Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves and we hope they got as much out of it as we got putting the event on.  If your son/daughter is taking part in the schools festival in April this event will have given them a definite advantage!

Any orienteering event in the country will offer you a similar selection of courses so even if you’re away on holiday there might be an event near where you’re staying.  Going to new areas is a great way of improving your orienteering skills and you can find out where the nearest event is by looking on the British Orienteering website. Just type British orienteering into a Google search and up it comes at the top of the list.

Closer to home we always welcome new members to our club.  Just follow the ‘join the club’ link on the website and as well as becoming a member of Moravian Orienteers you also get membership of the Scottish Orienteering Association (SOA) and British Orienteering (BO).  It sounds a bit complicated, but in simple terms the SOA looks after all the big competitions in Scotland and arranges training courses etc as well as looking after the senior and junior representative teams.  BOF are the governing body and by being a member, all adults get £2 off entry fees to mainstream events (today’s was only a little one!).  If you only intend competing within Scotland, just join as a ‘local; member….it’s cheaper!

By becoming a Moravian member you get regular info bulletins by e-mail and are invited to all our training days and social events.  You can also run for the club when we take part in relay races at the major events, the next one being the Scottish Championships in Speyside in May…… which ANYONE can take part in!  One of our members (Mike Rodgers, the planner of today’s event) has just completed training as a junior coach so hopefully in the not-too-distant future we will have occasional junior training days where you can improve your new navigation skills under Mike’s guidance.
